Letters to the Chief of Police
March 5, 2007
Dear Chief Serpas:
On February 13, at 6:00 p.m., I was driving on Charlotte in the pouring rain. As I drove through some water, my car stalled in the left hand lane. I was surrounded by bumper to bumper traffic. Within three minutes, Officer Matt Nixon stopped. When I told him my husband was on his way, he immediately called for help to get my car out of the busy intersection. Two more officers promptly appeared. I could not get my car out of gear. One of the officers assisted with the gear; the officers directed traffic and pushed my car out of the street.
My husband arrived, and Officer Nixon stayed with us and held his umbrella over my husband’s head while he boosted my car. After ensuring that we were safe and our car did not obstruct traffic, he left in a hurry, completely soaked. Officer Nixon was so kind and provided service far beyond the call of duty. It is reassuring to know that there are officers on the force who care enough about a stranger despite the weather conditions.
Please express my gratitude to Officer Nixon and the other officers who assisted him. I am very impressed by the service that was rendered to me and all the citizens who would have been inconvenienced by a stalled car during rush-hour traffic on a rainy evening.
Sincerely,
F.B.
