When Richard's mother returned home from work the evening of June 8, 2001, it appeared as if her son had taken a shower and had gotten ready to go out for the night. Richard did not return home that night, but did call the next morning, telling his mother "I'll be home shortly". He has not been seen or heard from since. Richard's mother said that nothing appeared unusual in his room or with him, only that he had lost some weight in the previous couple of weeks, but nothing additionally unusual or out of character.
Richard's vehicle was recovered on O'Brien Street near Charlotte Avenue.
