Crime of the Week, July 21, 2009

This week Nashville Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of $1000 cash for clues called in to 74-CRIME that help solve the murder of 40 year old Ray Clemmons on Old Charlotte Pike in West Nashville.

On Saturday, April 4th about 4:00 in the afternoon residents in the 8900 block of Old Charlotte Pike heard gunshots in the area. A short time later the body of Ray Clemmons was found shot to death in a driveway. Witnesses reported seeing a purple, late model Chevrolet Monte Carlo and a dark green Ford Taurus in the area about the time of the shots. The Taurus also had body damage on the front that showed tan or gold colored paint under the green paint. Clemmons was seen talking to another male black in the driveway just prior to the shots.

That man was described as a male black with a dark complexion, wearing a navy blue t-shirt, jeans and a black “doo rag” on his head.

West precinct detectives are asking for the public’s help in determining why Ray Clemmons was in the 8900 block of Old Charlotte Pike when he lived over 20 miles away in the University Court area of the Tony Sudekum housing development.
