Crime of the Week

July 24, 2007

This week Nashville Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of $1000 cash for clues called in to 74-CRIME that help solve the murder of twenty one year old Montrell Stewart of north Nashville.

On Monday, April 30, 2007 at approximately 7:35 in the evening, Montrell Stewart and some friends walked from behind a home on Batavia Street and began strolling down the street. Two cars slowly crept up the street behind them. Gunshots were fired from one of the cars and Montrell was hit. He fell to the ground while his friends ran for cover. The cars sped down Batavia Street and got away. Montrell was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The cars were described as a champagne colored Chevrolet Malibu four door with tinted windows and a dark Ford, four door with tinted windows. North precinct detectives are confidant that the shots came from the Malibu but they also feel sure that the Ford was involved too.

The occupants of the car are unknown but witnesses thought that the gunman was a male black subject.

Police believe that this shooting may be gang related but they need help from the community to identify the persons involved. Detectives feel that someone with knowledge of this event would call in but that they are afraid of retaliation so they encourage anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers and remain anonymous.

If you have information which might help Metro Police solve the murder of Montrell Stewart on Batavia Street in north Nashville, call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. If the arrest results in the arrest and prosecution, you could be eligible for a cash reward of $1000.

Crime stoppers will also pay up to $1000 for clues called in to 74-CRIME on any other major crime, wanted person, stolen property or drugs. Callers remain anonymous, they will only be known by the code number they are issued.
